Initially launched in New Zealand, this feature permits users to specify their listening preferences in detail, allowing the AI to curate a playlist that reflects both their instructions and listening history.
In addition, users can set these playlists to automatically refresh with new songs based on their prompts. This capability provides a customizable option akin to the Discover Weekly playlist, which has previously received updates for genre prioritization but lacks the same level of user direction.
The introduction of Prompted Playlists aligns with Spotify’s ongoing efforts to increase user agency within the platform. Earlier this year, an update to Spotify’s AI DJ introduced the ability for users to provide voice commands, echoing a trend among social media platforms, such as Instagram, which has implemented similar features that allow users to inform the algorithm about their interests.
