Segway, a brand known for its self-balancing scooters and currently owned by Ninebot, is set to expand its e-bike offerings with the introduction of a new model called Myon. This addition comes as Segway currently markets two e-bikes: the Xyber, designed with a moto style, and the low-step Xafari. The Myon is expected to be officially presented at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next year, following the release of teaser images to the media.
The company characterizes the Myon as an e-bike suited for both commuting and leisure use, designed to resemble a traditional bicycle more closely than its existing models. Nick Howe, Segway’s head of e-bikes, stated that the Myon caters to a wide range of riders, from novices to experienced cyclists. It is touted as versatile enough for daily use and casual weekend rides, incorporating technology informed by both Segway’s innovations and automotive industry advancements.
A notable feature of the Myon is its rear-facing radar, which Segway claims enhances rider safety by alerting cyclists to the presence and proximity of approaching vehicles, allowing them to maintain focus on the road ahead. This technology is described as providing cyclists with better situational awareness without the need to look back.
The RearView Radar is said to have a 150-degree field of view and can detect objects within a range of 230 feet. It offers various alerts for scenarios such as blind spot detection and lane change warnings. The radar system can also be customized via the Segway Mobility App.
While rear-facing radar technology has been adopted by multiple e-bike manufacturers, Segway will offer it as a paid upgrade for the Myon. Specific pricing details for the bike and its features are expected to be revealed on January 6th, the same day it is slated for sale.
