KISSIMMEE, Fla. – A hostage situation occurred at an apartment complex in Kissimmee on Friday morning, resulting in the suspect being shot and killed by law enforcement, as reported by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the Jamison Apartments near Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway and Partin Settlement Road at approximately 10:40 a.m. to investigate a domestic violence incident. When deputies attempted to engage with the 30-year-old suspect, he locked himself in the apartment.
During the standoff, the suspect broadcasted live on Facebook, making suicidal comments and displaying a handgun. Hostage negotiators and family members worked throughout the day to persuade him to surrender.
In the afternoon, deputies used a chemical agent in an effort to encourage the suspect to exit the building. He eventually left the apartment but remained in a prone position on the ground. The suspect retained the handgun, which he was pointing at his own head. Shortly before 9 p.m., he fired the weapon, prompting deputies to return fire, injuring the suspect.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) will investigate the shooting. No further details have been released.
