Plump Chinese man goes viral after joining ‘sports supermodel’ contest to ‘build courage’

A 28-year-old man named Chen Hao has gained attention on social media following his participation in the Chongqing Yongchuan District Youth Fitness and Bodybuilding Competition and College/University ‘Sports Supermodel’ Selection Competition held in southwestern China on November 23. Chen, who presented a contrasting physique to the muscle-bound competitors, became a viral sensation after videos of his performance were shared widely, according to the Nanguo Morning Post.

During the contest, Chen appeared to struggle with the proceedings, often turning his head to observe and mimic the other contestants’ poses. Despite his efforts, he was eliminated in the first round. However, his appearance amused the audience and his fellow competitors, who reportedly had difficulty containing their laughter. Chen’s confidence earned him praise online, even as he did not advance in the competition. The event reportedly did not impose strict criteria regarding body shape or age.
