Meta has recently launched the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) smart glasses, but they mainly retain the features of the previous version introduced in 2021. Currently, the original Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are available at a reduced price of approximately $238.99—a $60 discount—across various retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, and Target, particularly for Black Friday promotions.
Both the first-generation and second-generation models allow users to listen to music, take photos, record 1080p video, and make hands-free calls, thanks to a five-microphone array. Users can upload content directly to Facebook or Instagram via a companion app, and enjoy AI-powered features such as voice-activated photography, landmark history inquiries, recipe suggestions based on available ingredients, and real-time translation for multiple languages, including Spanish, Italian, and French.
Additionally, many software upgrades intended for the Gen 2 model are expected to be available for the original version as well. These include new slow-motion and hyperlapse video modes, as well as a “conversation focus” feature that enhances audio clarity for ongoing conversations. An upcoming software update is planned for the fall, which will expand the live translation capabilities to include additional languages like German and Portuguese.
One notable enhancement in the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 is its improved battery life, offering up to eight hours of continuous use with the inclusion of a charging case that provides an additional two days of runtime. The new model also delivers sharper 3K video at 30 frames per second, although both versions utilize the same 12-megapixel sensor, resulting in only minor differences in video quality.
