Wyze has introduced a new security solution with its Window Cam, designed to monitor outdoor spaces from inside the home. This product eliminates the need for batteries, Wi-Fi extenders, external power outlets, or weatherproofing. Although Wyze already sells mounts for indoor cameras, the Window Cam is specifically designed for monitoring through windows, incorporating features to minimize glare and reflections by omitting infrared and LED lighting. The camera is available on Wyze’s website for $34.98.
The Window Cam is equipped with a 1080P HD sensor and offers a 101-degree horizontal field of view, while its vertical range is limited to 53.9 degrees. Wyze notes that the camera features “enhanced color night vision,” which utilizes a wide f/1.0 aperture to produce color footage under low-light conditions.
The mount for the Window Cam includes a large black bezel to reduce glare from indoor lighting and attaches to the window using a non-reusable adhesive sticker. Wyze provides two stickers in case users wish to reposition the mount, although removal requires special tools like a hair dryer and scraper.
A 10-foot microUSB cable is included for powering the device; however, users must supply their own microSD card for local recording, with a maximum capacity of 512GB. While the Window Cam is outfitted with a built-in microphone and speaker, its two-way communication and audio recording of events outside may be less effective when positioned behind a window.
The camera provides motion detection alerts, and users can receive AI-generated descriptions of detected movements through Wyze’s Cam Unlimited Pro subscription service, which costs $19.99 per month or $199.99 annually.
