Campbell’s promises its soups are not made with 3D printed meat

Campbell’s Soup Company has publicly stated that its soups do not contain 3D-printed chicken, lab-grown chicken, or any form of bioengineered meat. This clarification followed the release of leaked audio in which a company vice president allegedly mentions that Campbell’s meat “came from a 3D printer.” The company addressed the claims on its website, asserting that the comments made in the audio are inaccurate and asserting that they only source chicken from reputable suppliers in the U.S. that meet USDA standards.

The controversial audio emerged as part of a lawsuit filed by a former employee, who claims to have recorded a conversation with Martin Bally, the company’s vice president of information technology. In this recorded dialogue, the individual purportedly presents views on Campbell’s food that include allegations of it being “bioengineered” and intended for “poor people.”

The comments made in the recording include a statement about the individual’s reluctance to consume chicken that they believe was produced by a 3D printer. The release of the audio has prompted Campbell’s to place Bally on leave as they investigate the situation. The company emphasized that the alleged remarks were made by someone in IT and are unrelated to the production processes of their food products, reiterating their commitment to using traditional meat sources.
