Zeynab Javadli, the former wife of Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, a member of Dubai’s ruling family, has raised concerns over potential arrest following a criminal complaint lodged by her ex-husband. He has accused her of kidnapping their three daughters. Since their divorce in 2019, the couple has been embroiled in a contentious custody battle, with both sides alleging kidnapping during various custody exchanges.
Recently, Javadli live-streamed a confrontation related to the custody dispute, which has led to possible charges of online offenses. In a video message, she described her actions as a desperate measure to seek assistance, believing it could be her last opportunity to be with her children.
Javadli stated that she and her daughters have been isolated since taking them back from their father’s home. She claims to have been granted effective custody under an agreement with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, which she asserts guaranteed her custody and support. However, a later court ruling allocated custody to Sheikh Saeed. Javadli received assurances that her agreement with the ruler would remain intact, but recent events have led to further complications.
On November 8, during a scheduled visitation at a child protection center, Javadli alleged that her children were not present when she arrived. Upon spotting them outside, they reportedly called for her to take them home, prompting her to return home with them. However, she claims that her attempts to leave were obstructed by vehicles associated with her ex-husband.
The court documents filed by Sheikh Saeed present a conflicting account, accusing Javadli of forcibly taking the children. He has also characterized her actions on social media as defamatory and in violation of state laws. Previous claims made by his lawyers also depicted her as an unfit mother. Javadli has rejected these allegations and has provided evidence to contest them.
This case mirrors other notable disputes within the Dubai royal family, where complex custody battles often reflect broader discussions on women’s rights in the region.
