Diamond Hampers, a charity based in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, is distributing blankets and duvets to residents this winter due to a significant increase in donations. Despite already providing supplies to local homeless shelters and families, the organization has amassed a surplus of bedding items.
The charity focuses on offering food aid and other essential resources to those in need. In light of the current cold weather, it is extending its support by providing bedding to individuals who may be struggling to heat their homes adequately. Lianne Simpson, the founder of Diamond Hampers, noted that the charity has collected these items over time and has seen a notable rise in contributions from the community.
In addition to distributing aid, Diamond Hampers operates three stores: The Pantry, The Attic, and The Toy Chest, which opened recently. These stores serve dual purposes: they supply essential items to those in need and sell toys, books, and clothing at reduced prices. This model allows the charity to further sustain its operations through revenue generated from sales.
Simpson emphasized the impact that the extra bedding could have on people during the winter months, stating that efforts are being made to ensure the community is aware of the available assistance. The charity’s initiative underscores the importance of community support in addressing seasonal challenges faced by vulnerable populations.
