Designing digital resilience in the agentic AI era

Global investment in artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to reach $1.5 trillion by 2025. However, a significant portion of business leaders—fewer than half—express uncertainty regarding their organizations’ ability to ensure service continuity, security, and cost control during unforeseen circumstances. This uncertainty, combined with the complexities introduced by autonomous AI’s decision-making capabilities, highlights the need for a redefined approach to digital resilience.

To enhance digital resilience, organizations are increasingly adopting a concept known as data fabric. This integrated architecture facilitates the connection and governance of information across all layers of a business. By dismantling information silos and providing real-time access to comprehensive data, a data fabric can enhance the capabilities of both human teams and autonomous AI systems. As a result, organizations can better identify risks, proactively address issues, swiftly recover from disruptions, and maintain operational stability.

Historically, AI systems relied on data generated by humans, such as text and audio. However, agentic AI requires detailed access to machine data, including logs and telemetry created by devices and applications. For agentic AI to effectively support digital resilience, it must have real-time access to this data flow. The absence of robust machine data integration may curtail AI functions and lead to potential errors. An emphasis on machine data oversight is therefore essential, as it allows AI systems to grasp context and adapt accordingly.

Despite the importance of machine data, many organizations struggle to achieve the necessary integration to enable agentic systems fully. This limitation may hinder the variety of use cases for agentic AI and potentially lead to inaccuracies in outputs. As technology leaders contemplate solutions, a pivot to a data fabric design may prove beneficial. This framework connects various data sources within security, IT, and operations, allowing for integrated analysis and enhancing risk management capabilities.
