The individual’s journey began in 2007 when they were selected in the H1B lottery, working for a consulting firm in New Jersey. The pay disparity was significant, receiving $28 per hour while being billed at $75, leading to feelings of fear regarding visa status rather than concerns about fairness. A pivotal moment came in 2009 when the user was unexpectedly laid off during the global financial crisis, coinciding with their wife’s pregnancy. This event led to a loss of faith in job security, prolonging their transition to a full-time role that would secure their immigration status.

In 2017, an attempt to renew their visa in India resulted in being stuck there for three months due to administrative processing.
