Forestrike, developed by Skeleton Crew, offers a distinct approach to martial arts action gaming. Players assume the role of Yu, a martial arts student on a mission to defeat an evil empire in his homeland. The game features a roguelite structure, which means that each gameplay session presents varying levels and scenarios, with an inherent expectation of frequent losses. This loss mechanic emphasizes learning and strategy development, supported by various martial arts masters who teach players new techniques throughout their journey.
A key gameplay feature is termed “foresight,” providing players with the opportunity to preview upcoming battles. This allows them to strategize effectively before engaging in fast-paced combat scenes that typically last only a few seconds. Similar to practicing before a significant event, foresight is intended to enhance skill levels rather than simplify the game.
Despite these mechanisms, Forestrike is not designed to be easy. Players often face challenges, especially at the onset, regardless of their understanding of when to dodge or execute specific moves.
