CHENNAI: On Monday, police arrested a construction worker in connection with the deaths of two stray dogs in the Vengaivasal suburb of Chengalpattu. Authorities are currently searching for a second suspect involved in the case.
Reports indicate that several migrant workers were residing at an under-construction site near Tambaram when two puppies entered the terrace of the building. When the puppies began barking, two workers responded with aggression. Allegedly, they used iron rods from the site to beat the dogs before throwing them off the roof, resulting in the animals’ deaths.
A video of the incident, recorded by nearby residents, circulated on social media, prompting outrage and calls for action from animal welfare activists. Several individuals filed complaints at the Selaiyur police station, leading to an investigation.
Police identified one of the accused as 25-year-old Julfikar, who was arrested later that evening. Efforts to apprehend the second worker are ongoing.
