Netgear has introduced its new mobile hotspot, the Nighthawk 5G M7, set for release in January. This device will feature a mobile app and an eSIM marketplace, allowing users to purchase local SIM cards for over 140 countries. The M7 is priced at $499.99 and is available unlocked, serving as a more economical option compared to the unlocked version of Netgear’s M6 Pro hotspot.
The M7 boasts Wi-Fi 7 capabilities, offering speeds of up to 3.6Gbps and supporting connectivity for up to 32 devices. Users can connect these devices via USB-C or an Ethernet adapter. The hotspot includes a firewall, WPA3 encryption, automatic firmware updates, and Netgear’s Advanced Router Protection, which provides defenses against security threats and includes live security patches. Both physical SIM cards and eSIMs can be utilized with the device.
In terms of battery life, the M7 can maintain connectivity for up to 10 hours on a single charge and is also able to function as a power bank. Although this is slightly less than the 13 hours advertised for the M7 Pro, it may still suffice for typical use until a charging source is available.
A significant feature of the M7 is its eSIM marketplace, which represents a notable advancement over previous Netgear models. Through the Netgear app, users will be able to view, purchase, and activate local data plans for the M7, an advantageous option for frequent international travelers. Data plans available in the marketplace will range from 3GB to 20GB, and users will have the ability to monitor their real-time data usage through the app.
