The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is investigating an incident involving social media influencers Martins Otse, known as Verydarkman (VDM), and comedian Freedom Atsepoyi (Mr Jollof), who were involved in a physical altercation on an airplane in Asaba. The NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs, Michael Achimugu, confirmed that both individuals were removed from the aircraft and taken for questioning due to their actions being deemed a serious safety risk to passengers, crew, and the aircraft itself.
Achimugu noted that the airline has not yet submitted an official report on the incident, as the management is presently in discussions. He stated that NCAA officers in Asaba have been tasked with investigating the responses from aviation security, the pilot, and other personnel during the incident.
While the NCAA does not have prosecutorial authority, it will recommend that the airline blacklist the individuals and contact the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police for further legal action. Achimugu emphasized the NCAA’s stance on maintaining zero tolerance for unruly behavior on flights and indicated that appropriate measures will be taken once all facts are confirmed.
