Google announced the expansion of its Call Recording feature in September. To access this feature, users need to update the Phone by Google app and ensure they have the November Pixel Drop installed. Reports indicate that users on devices like the Pixel 10 Pro and 10 Pro Fold can access this feature following these updates.
The Call Notes feature, available on Pixel 9 and newer models, utilizes AI to transcribe phone calls and create summaries that emphasize key points and subsequent actions. In contrast, the Call Recording function primarily creates audio files stored on the device, which users may need to transcribe through separate applications or services.
Users can initiate recordings manually at the beginning of a call. However, the settings allow for automatic recording from a specific list of numbers or for calls that are not listed in the user’s contacts. The recordings can be set to delete automatically after 7, 14, or 30 days, or users have the option to retain them indefinitely.
When Call Recording is enabled, users are required to download audio files that notify all call participants that the conversation is being recorded. This setup occurs during the first call when Google provides information on how the recordings are managed and stored.
For Pixel 6 and newer devices, usage of the Call Recording feature necessitates Android 14 or higher. Meanwhile, non-Pixel devices utilizing the Phone app only require Android 9 or a newer version.
