Mozilla has announced the development of a new AI browsing feature called AI Window for its Firefox browser. This initiative will include an AI assistant and chatbot designed to create an opt-in “intelligent and user-controlled space” for users. The feature is being developed transparently, with input from users during the process.
In September, Mozilla introduced a “shake to summarize” feature for Firefox on iPhones, which uses AI to provide summaries of web pages currently open. The company positions itself as a proponent of respectful browsing, allowing users to choose how much AI to incorporate into their experience.
The AI Window feature will be one of three browsing options available to Firefox users, alongside private and classic windows. According to a post on the Mozilla Connect forum, users will be allowed to select their preferred AI model within the AI Window, though details about the specific models and functionalities remain limited. For those interested in receiving updates about the AI Window, Mozilla has provided a waitlist for potential users.
