Dbrand has announced a limited edition Companion Cube skin for Valve’s upcoming Steam Machine. This skin will allow users to transform the new PC-console hybrid into a replica of the iconic gaming character. The Companion Cube skin is scheduled for release sometime in 2026, although it is unclear if it will launch simultaneously with the Steam Machine, which is expected to arrive in early 2026. There has been no indication of the pricing for the skin as of yet.
According to Dbrand CEO Adam Ijaz, the Companion Cube skin serves as a shell that attaches to the Steam Machine’s chassis. The design has been specifically engineered to avoid obstructing air intakes or the rear exhaust. However, adjustments are still being made to ensure compatibility with the console’s ports.
Ijaz also mentioned that Dbrand is working on additional skins inspired by GameCube and Minecraft, which he views as a strong opportunity for creative expression. Although these designs are in development, the Companion Cube was prioritized as the first skin, aligning with the popularity of the character.
In a related comment, Valve engineer Steve Cardinali noted in a hands-on preview that while a Companion Cube design seemed likely, Valve did not create one themselves, allowing Dbrand to take the initiative.
