Amazon has removed the Haribo gummy bear-themed power bank from its website and is canceling pending orders for the device. In communications with customers, Amazon cited a “potential safety or quality issue” as the reason for this action and confirmed that they are not charging customers who had recently purchased the item.
Weighing 9.9 ounces, the Haribo Mini Power Bank is marketed as one of the lightest 20,000mAh power banks available, priced at $25. Its lightweight design made it a choice for backpackers and others seeking a portable charging solution. Currently, the product’s listing has been taken down, and it remains unclear if or when it may be available again.
The Haribo Mini Power Bank included features such as a built-in USB-C cable and support for fast charging. According to an archived version of its listing, it was also equipped with a chip designed to protect against overcharging, overheating, and overpowering. This product is part of a collaboration in Japan that includes another Haribo-themed 10,000mAh mini power bank, which is also currently unavailable on Amazon.
In an email to customers, Amazon expressed regret for any inconvenience and assured that customer safety and satisfaction remain a top priority. The Verge has reached out for further clarification from Haribo and Amazon but has not received a response at this time.
