Samsung brings a generative AI-powered Bixby to its TVs

Samsung is introducing a new conversational AI feature called Vision AI Companion in its 2025 TV lineup. This technology allows users to ask questions about content displayed on the screen, as well as broader topics. The update, first revealed in September, is currently being rolled out and supports multiple languages.

Vision AI Companion enhances Samsung’s existing virtual assistant, Bixby, by utilizing generative AI capabilities. Users can inquire about actors, artists, or sports scores while also receiving recommendations for movies, TV shows, cooking ideas, travel suggestions, and local dining options.

The AI is powered by a combination of models, including Microsoft Copilot and Perplexity, enabling it to engage in natural, context-aware conversations and respond to follow-up queries. The feature not only provides verbal answers but also visual information, making it a central element of Samsung’s AI offerings, which include picture optimization and real-time translation.

Samsung initially introduced Vision AI Companion at the IFA trade show in September. The feature is now available on its 2025 TVs and supports ten languages, including English, Korean, and Spanish. As Samsung does not offer smart speakers, the television serves as the primary interface for their AI technology within the home, alongside smart appliances like refrigerators and washing machines.
