Netflix is reportedly expanding its video podcast initiatives beyond its recent agreement with Spotify. A report from Bloomberg indicates that the streaming service is planning to develop original video podcasts that will be exclusive to its platform.
The company has been in communication with various talent to produce these new shows and is considering updates to the layout of its mobile application to enhance user accessibility to video podcasts. Last month, Netflix entered into a deal with Spotify to incorporate 16 video podcasts into its service. Additionally, Bloomberg outlines that Netflix is in discussions to license content from iHeartMedia and SiriusXM.
The plans include licensing shows for a period of one year, with some agreements valued at under $10 million. This strategy appears to be part of Netflix’s assessment of the potential for podcasts within its streaming offerings.
