Herm tourism bosses on ‘difficult’ running costs

Tourism officials in Herm have reported that the challenges of operating the island have become increasingly significant. Kate Moody, the marketing and public relations manager for Herm, indicated that the hospitality sector has struggled since the Covid pandemic, as tourists are currently more cautious with their spending.

Tom Jones, who oversees hospitality in Herm, emphasized that the costs associated with running the island are continuously rising. Moody pointed out that the introduction of Goods and Services Tax (GST) could add further strain, along with recent increases in minimum wage. She remarked on the complexities of maintaining operations under these financial pressures.

Despite these challenges, Moody noted that the feedback regarding the quality of service at local hotels and cottages has been positive. Looking ahead, she expressed intentions to target new audiences, specifically aiming to engage the French market to bolster tourism efforts.
