Iran dismisses US accusation of plot to kill Israeli ambassador in Mexico | Israel-Iran conflict News

Tehran has dismissed accusations from the United States and Israel suggesting that Iran was planning to assassinate Israel’s ambassador to Mexico, calling the claims “ridiculous.” Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Israel aims to undermine Iran’s friendly relations with other nations through what he termed an “absurd allegation.”

Last week, unnamed senior officials from the US and Israel reported that the Quds Force, part of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was involved in a plot targeting ambassador Einat Kranz Neiger, reportedly active from late 2024 into mid-2025. These officials indicated that the plot has been contained and does not currently pose a threat, although they did not provide evidence to support their statements.

In response to the allegations, Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude to Mexican security forces for purportedly thwarting a terrorist network linked to Iran. A spokesperson affirmed Israel’s commitment to collaborating internationally to prevent threats from Iran and its affiliates against Israeli and Jewish targets.

Contrarily, Mexican officials have denied any knowledge of such a plot, stating in a joint announcement that they have not received any reports regarding an alleged attempt on the ambassador’s life. They emphasized that there has been no disruption in diplomatic relations with any country.

Iran’s embassy in Mexico has labeled the allegations as a significant falsehood, asserting that they contradict Mexico’s interests and accordingly expressed that the claims warranted no formal response. Baghaei further noted that Israel has previously made similar claims against Iran, referencing attacks on Jewish sites in Australia in late 2024. However, reports from New South Wales Police indicated no evidence of foreign agents involved in those incidents, despite ongoing assertions from Israel regarding Iran’s involvement.

In August, Australia accused Iran of orchestrating anti-Semitic arson attacks, resulting in the expulsion of Iran’s ambassador and the designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organization. Australia claimed credible evidence of Iran’s orchestration of attacks, but specifics were not disclosed. This development followed broader international concerns about Iranian intelligence activities against individuals in Europe and North America.
