During a pre-competition briefing on Tuesday, contestants of the Miss Universe pageant exited in response to remarks made by Nawat Itsaragrisil, the director of Miss Universe Thailand, who criticized Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch. Mr. Itsaragrisil publicly reprimanded Bosch for not posting promotional content related to the event. Reports indicate that he referred to her as a “dumbhead,” although he later clarified at a press conference that he had meant to say “damaged.”
As Bosch attempted to address the comments, Mr. Nawat allegedly called security and threatened to disqualify those who supported her. This incident was broadcast live on the Miss Universe Thailand Facebook page and has since garnered significant attention online.
The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) responded to the situation by condemning Mr. Nawat’s actions, labeling them as “malicious.” Following the backlash, he issued an apology for his conduct during the briefing.
This exchange raises questions about the treatment of contestants and the expectations placed upon them during the competition.
