A fire at a perfume warehouse in Dilovasi, a town in north-western Turkey, has resulted in the deaths of six individuals. The fire erupted at 09:05 local time on Saturday, according to the local governor’s office. Five additional people were hospitalized, with one in critical condition being treated at a burns unit.
The fire has since been extinguished. Eyewitness accounts describe hearing an explosion, followed by flames spreading through the warehouse. A witness recounted seeing a colleague’s clothes catch fire and attempting to extinguish the flames before realizing the extent of the fire’s spread.
The specific cause of the fire remains unknown. Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc confirmed that a judicial investigation has been initiated, and the Ministry of Labor is also conducting an inquiry. Dilovasi, located approximately 70 kilometers (43 miles) from Istanbul, is an industrial area with numerous factories and depots.
Images shared by Turkish media depict firefighters battling large flames at the scene. The incident raises questions about safety regulations and emergency preparedness in industrial settings, particularly in areas with highly flammable materials. As investigations proceed, further information on the fire’s cause is anticipated.
