Miss Universe contestants walk out after organiser berates Miss Mexico

Several contestants exited a Miss Universe event in Thailand following a public confrontation involving Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch. During a pre-pageant ceremony, Nawat Itsaragrisil, the director of Miss Universe Thailand, reprimanded Ms. Bosch for not sharing promotional content on her social media. When she expressed disagreement, Mr. Nawat allegedly called in security and threatened to disqualify those supporting her, resulting in Ms. Bosch leaving the room, along with other contestants.

The incident was streamed live and has drawn significant attention online. The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) criticized Mr. Nawat’s behavior, describing it as inappropriate. Following the event, he issued an apology. Some contestants were heard defending Ms. Bosch during the confrontation, which prompted Mr. Nawat to state that participants could either remain for the contest or leave. Despite his remarks, many contestants stood in solidarity with Ms. Bosch, with several opting to exit.

After her departure, Ms. Bosch commented on the encounter, stating that she felt disrespected and claimed Mr. Nawat had called her “dumb.” Mr. Nawat later suggested that his words had been misunderstood, asserting he referred to “damage” caused by Ms. Bosch. The MUO has since sent a team to oversee the competition and noted that Mr. Nawat’s involvement would be limited.

Reigning Miss Universe, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig of Denmark, was among those who walked out, emphasizing the importance of women’s rights and respect. Ms. Bosch reinforced her commitment to advocating for women’s voices, stating that she intended to represent those fighting for various causes. Mr. Nawat later issued a public apology to the contestants present during the incident.
