8BitDo’s latest wireless controllers can now shake-to-wake the Switch 2

Third-party controller manufacturers have recently highlighted their ability to wirelessly wake the Switch 2 from standby mode, a feature that enhances user convenience. Currently, few controllers possess this capability, which is a notable selling point for the official $89.99 Switch 2 Pro controller. In this context, accessory company 8BitDo has introduced new firmware for its Pro 3 and Ultimate 2 controllers that enables this functionality, although the company has not heavily marketed this update.

The latest firmware version 2.0 is now available through Ultimate Software V2 on Windows and Mac, introducing shake-to-wake support for the Switch 2. This feature allows users to simply turn on the controller, give it a shake, and wake the console from standby. Confirmation of this feature has been provided by users testing it on their Switch 2 consoles with both controllers.

Despite the new firmware, the absence of wake-up support in earlier models has influenced some to recommend alternative controllers. Priced at approximately $69.99 each, the 8BitDo controllers are not the least expensive options available. Comparatively, more affordable models, such as GuliKit’s ES Pro, which retails for $29.99, have offered wireless wake-up capabilities for the Switch 2 for several months. This raises questions about the competitive positioning of the newer, pricier controllers in the current market.
