Deputy Jayne Ozanne has announced her resignation from the Committee for Education, Sport and Culture (ESC). In an email to States members, she cited “personal reasons” for her decision. Despite her exit from the ESC, Ozanne will continue to serve as Vice-president of the Committee for Employment and Social Security and as a member of the Transport Licensing Authority.
Deputy Haley Camp has expressed interest in filling the vacancy, with an election scheduled for November 26. Should Camp be elected, she would be required to resign from her position on the Education Devolution & Delegation Investigation & Advisory Committee.
In her announcement, Ozanne mentioned having endured “a very difficult few months.” She expressed a desire to focus on addressing issues related to the cost of living crisis faced by islanders. Ozanne intends to collaborate with various committees to explore ways to assist those in need.
She acknowledged the leadership of ESC President Paul Montague, describing her time working with fellow committee members as “a real privilege and joy.”
Any candidates nominated to replace Ozanne on the ESC will require a proposer and a seconder from the floor, and should an election take place, they will be subject to inquiries regarding the committee’s mandate.
