Microsoft has launched its in-house AI image generator, MAI-Image-1, which is currently available in two products: Bing Image Creator and Copilot Audio Expressions. The announcement was made in October, with Microsoft’s AI chief, Mustafa Suleyman, indicating that the model will be “coming soon” to the European Union (EU).
Suleyman has noted that MAI-Image-1 is particularly effective at generating images of food and nature scenes, along with artistic lighting and photorealistic details. Microsoft’s blog further elaborates that the model stands out for creating photorealistic imagery, including realistic lighting effects such as reflections and bounce light, as well as landscapes. The integration of speed and quality is highlighted, suggesting that users can quickly translate their ideas into images, iterate on them, and refine their projects using other tools.
Additionally, MAI-Image-1 will be utilized to produce AI-generated artwork that complements AI-generated audio narratives within the “story mode” of Copilot’s text-to-speech platform, Copilot Audio Expressions.
MAI-Image-1 is one of three AI models available on Bing’s image creator platform, joining OpenAI’s DALL-E 3 and GPT-4o. This partnership highlights the competitive landscape in AI-powered content generation tools.
