Influencers kicked out of food market after viral £9 crumble review

Borough Market, one of London’s oldest food markets, has implemented a new policy requiring social media influencers to seek permission before filming on the premises. This rule is intended to minimize disruptions for traders and visitors, although it has met with some backlash.

Gerry del Guercio, who runs the Instagram account “Bite Twice,” was recently removed from the market while reviewing a product. He and his friend were filming a video about a £9 apple crumble when security intervened. Del Guercio later expressed his disappointment on social media, highlighting the importance of social media in promoting the market.

Other content creators have reported similar experiences, with influencers being stopped from filming prior to trying various dishes. One couple, known as “We Get Around Travel,” expressed shock at being asked to halt their video activities, while another reviewer criticized the policy for potentially limiting exposure for small businesses within the market.

A spokesperson from Borough Market stated that the filming policy aims to prevent congestion and ensure smooth operation for both stallholders and visitors. Filming is entirely prohibited on weekends—when the market experiences peak attendance—and those who wish to film professionally are required to submit an application online for approval.

Due to the negative feedback, Borough Market is currently reviewing its filming guidelines.
