Surrey County Council (SCC) has launched over 80 Warm Welcome spaces across Surrey to provide residents with a free hot drink and a place to socialize during the colder months. This initiative, which is in its fourth year, utilizes community centers, church halls, and various libraries throughout the region.
The Warm Welcome spaces aim to assist individuals impacted by financial pressures, allowing them to access these facilities from Saturday up until the end of March. These venues offer not only warmth and social interaction but also an opportunity for additional support and advice if needed.
Councillor Mark Nuti, the cabinet member responsible for health, wellbeing, and public health, emphasized the importance of these spaces. He noted their role in preventing individuals from feeling isolated in cold homes. Nuti invited residents of all ages to utilize the Warm Welcome spaces, highlighting their primary purpose as a place for people to escape the cold, enjoy a hot beverage, and engage in friendly conversation.
Statistical data indicates that more than 65,000 residents visited the Warm Welcome sites between November 2024 and March of this year. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to support community health and wellbeing amid rising cost of living challenges.
