Hyundai includes Dolby Atmos as standard in the new Elexio SUV

Dolby Atmos, known for its spatial audio technology, is increasingly being incorporated into luxury vehicles, including brands like Mercedes-Benz and Cadillac. Recently, Hyundai has introduced the Dolby Atmos audio system in its entry-level Elexio electric vehicle (EV), which is currently exclusive to the Chinese market. The Elexio is priced between RMB 119,800 and 149,800, equivalent to approximately $16,800 to $21,000.

Unlike high-end vehicles that typically offer Dolby Atmos as part of premium packages, the Hyundai Elexio will make it standard across all trims. This model features six built-in speakers, with an option to enhance the system to eight speakers using an external amplifier. While this speaker setup is modest compared to the more expansive systems found in luxury brands, it aims to provide an engaging audio experience for everyday driving situations.

Additionally, the Elexio will support integrations with streaming services like Kugou Music and iQIYI, allowing users to enjoy audio-visual content in Dolby Atmos while in the vehicle. The press release from Dolby emphasizes that this could turn the car into a versatile entertainment space.

The introduction of Dolby Atmos in a more affordable vehicle raises questions about its potential for broader accessibility. However, as of now, there is no information regarding the availability of Dolby Atmos-enabled vehicles in markets outside of China.
