Storm chasers fly inside the eye of Hurricane Melissa

A US Air Force Reserve team, referred to as the “Hurricane Hunters,” conducted a flight through the eye of Hurricane Melissa on Monday to gather data for the National Hurricane Center. Hurricane Melissa, classified as a category five storm, has recorded wind speeds reaching 175 mph (282 km/h), making it the most powerful storm of 2025 to date. The hurricane is projected to make landfall in Jamaica late Monday or early Tuesday, after which it is expected to move across eastern Cuba and the Bahamas.

This situation raises questions regarding the potential impact of such a strong storm on the regions it is expected to affect.
