A 69-year-old Japanese tourist, identified as Morimasa Hibino, has died after falling from the perimeter wall of the Pantheon in Rome. Reports indicate that Hibino fell from a height of approximately seven meters (22.9 feet) at around 21:50 local time. A priest in the vicinity alerted authorities after noticing Hibino lying in a ditch.
Emergency services and firefighters had to force open a gate outside the historic site to reach the man, who was found deceased at the scene. An investigation is currently underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his death.
According to local media, Hibino was sitting on the edge of the wall and reportedly lost his balance before falling. Authorities have since collected surveillance images and videos from cameras overlooking the area where the incident occurred. The Pantheon is noted as one of Italy’s most frequented tourist destinations, drawing millions of visitors each year.
