A tornado struck Val-d’Oise, located north of Paris, on Monday, resulting in significant damage. Construction cranes were toppled, properties were affected, and numerous trees were uprooted as the tornado passed through the area. According to authorities, one fatality was reported, and four individuals sustained critical injuries.
The town of Ermont, situated approximately 20 kilometers (13 miles) northeast of Paris, experienced the most severe impact from the tornado, which caused destruction across multiple districts. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez described the storm as one of “rare intensity” on the social media platform X.
As recovery efforts begin, how local infrastructure and emergency services will respond to such extreme weather events is a key question for the affected communities.
