Amazon has introduced new “Amelia” smart glasses, designed to assist delivery drivers with various tasks. These glasses feature a built-in display and an always-on camera. They aim to help drivers locate packages within delivery vans, provide turn-by-turn navigation, and facilitate hands-free photo documentation of deliveries.
The glasses are intended to enhance safety by guiding drivers through complex environments, such as apartment buildings, and alerting them to potential hazards. To operate the glasses, drivers will use a vest equipped with a swappable battery and a button for capturing delivery photos. Additional features include an emergency button and possibly two cameras—one positioned above the nose and another by the temple.
Moreover, the glasses are equipped with transition lenses that adjust to light conditions, and they can accommodate prescription lenses. While the exact timeline for the glasses’ rollout remains unspecified, Amazon has indicated that hundreds of drivers have already tested preliminary versions. The company plans to enhance the glasses further, with potential future capabilities like real-time defect detection and hazard notifications.
Though the frames of the glasses appear relatively thin, they are not yet comparable to standard consumer eyewear. Reports suggest that Amazon is also developing another model, codenamed “Jayhawk,” aimed at consumers, which may launch in 2026 or 2027.
