Anthropic has announced enhancements to its AI-powered coding service, Claude Code, which is now accessible via the web and in preview on the Claude iOS app. This evolution allows developers to engage in asynchronous coding sessions without opening a terminal. Previously, Claude Code was primarily available through terminal applications on PCs and as extensions for various integrated development environments (IDEs).
According to Anthropic, the web version enables users to initiate coding sessions by connecting their GitHub repositories and describing their coding needs. Each session operates in an isolated environment with real-time progress tracking, allowing users to guide Claude’s work as needed. This development aligns with a growing interest among enterprises for asynchronous project management.
The Claude Code web version is currently in research preview and available to Pro and Max users, with similar rate limits as other versions. Anthropic implemented these limits after noticing a surge in demand for the service last July, when some users were able to run the tool continuously.
With Claude Code now available in the cloud, teams can manage multiple tasks across different repositories from a unified interface, facilitating faster shipping of code through automatic pull request creation. Other coding agents, including Google’s Jules and Code Assist, as well as OpenAI’s Codex, offer similar functionalities for parallel project handling.
Anthropic has assured that the cloud version maintains a high level of security, operating in an isolated sandbox environment. Tasks are routed through a secure proxy service to prevent unauthorized access to repositories. Companies can also control which domains Claude Code can interact with.
Claude Code operates on the Claude Sonnet 4.5 model, touted by Anthropic as a top coding model, with a smaller version, Claude Haiku 4.5, available to subscribers at no cost.
