8BitDo has announced updates to its products, focusing on design and functionality enhancements. The N40 version of the Ultimate 2 controller now features a black-and-gray color scheme, bright red buttons, and a matching charging dock designed to complement the NES console aesthetic. This controller will include four swappable joystick caps, and its grips will bear dates related to significant Nintendo and 8BitDo product launches. Functionally, it remains consistent with the original Ultimate 2, boasting TMR joysticks, Hall effect triggers, color-changing LED rings, reprogrammable bumper buttons, and compatibility with various devices, including the Switch and Windows systems. Priced at $79.99, the controller is available for preorder and comes with a Retro Receiver for wireless connection to the original NES, along with a 2.4GHz adapter. Its release is slated for November 15, 2025, with a limited run of 1,985 units.
In contrast, the new Retro 68 Keyboard N40 presents significant hardware advancements, diverging from its predecessor. Although it features a compact 68-key layout, the keyboard’s construction utilizes aluminum alloy, and it has transitioned to linear Box Ice Cream Pro Max switches from Kailh’s clicky offering. The Retro 68 is powered by a larger 6,500mAh battery, providing up to 300 hours of use between charges and includes oversized programmable Super Buttons that now connect wirelessly. The keyboard is notably heavier at 2,200 grams and is priced at $499.99, available for preorder, with shipments expected in January 2026.
Finally, the Retro Cube 2 Speaker N Edition retains the visual style of its predecessor while introducing dual stereo speakers with dedicated music and gaming modes, a built-in microphone, and an upgraded battery that offers up to 30 hours of playtime. Its charging capabilities have also improved, allowing for charging via a new wireless dock. The speaker is available for preorder at $49.99 and will be released on December 8, 2025. The original version launched in 2016 for $35.
