Paddy Power to close 57 shops in UK and Republic of Ireland

Betting company Paddy Power has announced the closure of 57 retail outlets in the UK and Republic of Ireland following a review of its high street operations. This decision puts 247 employees at risk of redundancy, with 128 affected in the UK and 119 in the Republic of Ireland.

The closures include 29 shops in the UK, one of which is located in Northern Ireland, while 28 shops will close in the Republic. The company’s parent organization, Flutter UKI, stated that affected staff may be offered opportunities for redeployment where feasible.

A spokesperson acknowledged that these closures would lead to job losses and noted that the company is consulting closely with employees and providing support to those impacted by the changes. The firm cited rising cost pressures and challenging market conditions as factors influencing this decision.

While the company is reviewing its high street presence, they emphasized that it remains an important aspect of their customer service strategy, and they plan to innovate and invest in operations to adapt to evolving customer trends and preferences.
