Netflix is making a big bet on video podcasts

Netflix is set to expand its content offerings by introducing video podcasts, in partnership with Spotify’s podcast studio and The Ringer. The streaming platform announced on Tuesday that it will feature 16 podcast series, including popular titles such as The Bill Simmons Podcast, Conspiracy Theories, and shows focused on sports like the NFL and NBA.

During this initial release, Netflix will not include commercial breaks for the video podcasts; however, Spotify’s advertisements within these podcasts will still be present. This collaboration follows Netflix’s development of several podcasts related to its original shows, which are also available on platforms like YouTube. In April, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos hinted at the possibility of adding podcasts to the platform, acknowledging the growing popularity of video podcasts.

Spotify has expressed intentions to further broaden its podcast reach, indicating they plan to create similar partnerships with a wider array of content creators. For those interested, a complete list of the podcasts scheduled to debut on Netflix can be found on the company’s official website.

This shift represents a notable development in Netflix’s strategy to diversify its streaming portfolio and adapt to evolving audience preferences in content consumption.
