YouTube has a new video player

YouTube is set to roll out an update to the video player this week, aimed at creating a “cleaner and more immersive” experience. The update will introduce revised controls and new icons, which YouTube claims will enhance the visual satisfaction of users while minimizing the obstruction of content. The platform began testing these changes earlier this year, and screenshots suggest a design featuring rounded buttons with slight translucency.

The updated video player will be accessible across mobile, web, and TV platforms. Additionally, YouTube is planning to implement various other enhancements. Among these changes is a revamped double-tap to skip feature, which is described as being more modern and less disruptive to the viewing experience. There will also be a new structured system for comment replies, aimed at facilitating a focused reading experience within the replies panel. Furthermore, for selected videos, users will notice a “dynamic” animation when they click the like button, such as a music note appearing when engaging with a music video.

These revisions indicate YouTube’s ongoing efforts to refine user interaction with the platform.
