Facebook is adding job listings, again

Meta has reintroduced a jobs feature on Facebook, marking a return to an initiative that was initially launched in 2017 and later discontinued. This revamped offering focuses on local, entry-level, service, and trade positions.

Job listings can be found in a dedicated tab within the Marketplace section of Facebook, and they may also appear in relevant groups. Businesses can post their job openings, and the listings are accessible only to users aged 18 and older, adhering to specific guidelines set forth by Facebook. Certain categories, such as adult services and drugs, are prohibited, and in-person childcare services are also excluded from the listings—despite the presence of local groups focused on hiring nannies.

In Seattle, the job listings appear to function similarly to traditional “Help Wanted” signs that businesses display. This digital approach is likely beneficial, considering many local communities engage through Facebook groups for various services and information. It raises questions about the effectiveness of this feature in connecting job seekers with potential employers and whether it will persist this time around.
