In the first incident, Marak was verbally abused by a group of men on a scooter as she walked through Kamla Nagar. She described feeling upset and left the area without eating. Later, she faced similar abuse while traveling on the Delhi Metro, where a man made racial remarks as others boarded the train.
In response, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju expressed his concern on social media and encouraged her to report the incidents to the Delhi Police. He further highlighted the government’s establishment of a Special Police Unit aimed at addressing complaints of violence and discrimination towards people from the Northeast. Rijiju stressed the importance of treating all individuals with respect.
The Delhi Police unit focuses on responding to such complaints and ensuring that individuals from diverse backgrounds are treated equally.
